Designing for a modern pedagogy
The new facility focuses on hands-on learning, flexibility and creating adaptable spaces to support various educational styles.
Chamberlain School District came to us in need of an additional facility to establish a K-12 campus at their current Middle/High School. To gain a full understanding of their needs and expectations, our design team hosted Discovery sessions with leadership, the school board, teachers and students. At the conclusion of the Discovery process, three priorities were identified: hands-on learning, great flexibility and learning spaces that would be equipped to support different styles of education.
While we analyzed many different classroom setups and configurations, it was ultimately decided that a pod-style configuration was the best fit for their curriculum. This design choice is expected to achieve many of their major goals – reducing noise, allowing for dedicated learning spaces and grade level collaboration, providing visibility and offering shared spaces for resources and learning.
Within the classroom pods, the region’s color scheme carries through and brings with it wall graphics that become both interactive and educational. This 105,480 square-foot facility was completed in 2024.
