Meet Kent

Like many of us at CMBA, Kent had a grandfather who was a carpenter.  He loved spending time with him on job sites, and Kent also had an uncle who was an architect. He discovered at a young age that his artistic gifts and interest in building were a perfect blend for a career in architecture. Kent grew up in the central Kansas town of Great Bend – surrounded by a rural life of oil wells, agriculture, wetlands, and wildlife. After graduating from the University of Kansas, he started his career working for a small firm in his home state. Within a few years, Kent joined CMBA’s Des Moines office and was promoted to an Associate Principal in 2015. Kent has a passion for collegiate and healthcare spaces. When asked about his favorites, the Learning Commons at University of Iowa is top on his list. He loves the dramatic transformation from an underutilized, drab space – to a vibrant, open, collaborative, and highly utilized student space that has exceeded people’s expectations. Kent’s other passion – family. Kent, and his wife Melanie, have one son and two daughters that keep their lives busy and full. Some lesser known facts about him? He’s a tap dancer, loves college basketball, has a weakness for nice shoes, describes himself as a foody, practices yoga and is an aviation buff. Like most CMBA professionals, Kent is an active advocate for serving his community. His recent service has been with the Heritage Carousel of Des Moines Foundation, a nonprofit entity that looks to provide families of diverse backgrounds opportunities to create lasting memories on a vintage carousel. We are proud to call Kent a CMBA “Champion!”
