Meet Courtney

It’s a common theme here at CMBA to have grown up around construction or architecture. For Courtney Koch, that’s also true. Her father was a mason and owned a construction company, so job sites have been familiar to her since she was very young. Courtney just celebrated her 11 th anniversary with CMBA, and in 2015 was promoted to a Principal Architect and named a partner in the firm. She credits some sage advice from her father for getting her into the architecture field. When she was young he told her “Don’t do the back-breaking work. If you love this, go be an architect!” A bridge building contest in junior high solidified her love of architecture. Of course, her bridge held out the longest and she won the contest. We would expect nothing less! It’s no surprise that she loves the balance of design and problem solving that architecture entails. The challenge of solving client problems is a strong motivator for her. A few fun facts about Courtney: her favorite color is orange (we love it too), she loves ice cream, golfing, biking and cake decorating! Courtney grew up in rural Nebraska and has a passion for CMBA’s rural clients—especially those in the education sector. Her deep understanding of challenges rural communities face really helps her relate to and build great relationships with our clients. In her down time, she enjoys time with her husband, Brent (who is also a Principal at CMBA) and their two kids. She’s also been a volunteer with the United Way of Siouxland for more than 10 years and sits on the Sioux City Public Schools Foundation Board. Courtney’s passion for architecture and helping communities are what make her a CMBA Champion!
